You’ve surely heard that Mozilla is working on a new Add-on Manager for Thunderbird email client and Firefox web browser. You can get a preview of this add-on manager in a recently posted Thunderbird 3.2 Alpha 1 Pre, an early development release of Thunderbird, a Shredder. Unbelievable but true, Tim Anderson’s ITWriting after a conversation with Jeff Teper (Microsoft’s Corporate VP of the Office Business Platform) reports on his blog that Linux fanbois that want to run Microsoft Office’s Web Apps will need a Microsoft Office license even though the MS Office desktop suite doesn’t run on Linux desktops. Oracle has released a second beta of upcoming VirtualBox 3.2.0, the open source desktop virtualisation application for x86 hardware.
Oracle VM VirtualBox 3.2.0 considered a major update includes several new features, fixed items and addresses a number of regressions in beta 1.
Oracle VM VirtualBox 3.2.0 beta 2 adds Java bindings, it restores Ubuntu Lucid VM with 3D effects, in Linux the shared folders kernel module is now loaded on demand, enabling a USB keyboard no longer disables the PS/2 keyboard, new Guest Additions icons, and several GUI improvements. More»

Mozilla has just pushed out an upgrade of it’s desktop email client, Thunderbird. Thunderbird 3.1 beta 2 with many experimental features is now available for download. If you’re using the previous version, Thunderbird 3.1 beta, upgrades are already available via the Update Manager.
Thunderbird 3.1 Beta 2 is built atop of the Gecko 1.9.2 platform. Stability and memory issues have been addressed, the UI has also been re-touched to improve the design. Mozilla says the main goal of this release is to find out about possible problems caused by the changes in the underlying Gecko 1.9.2 platform. More»
