Adapting Greasemonkey UserScripts for Opera Browser

Opera 10: Nested Twitter Replies

For Windows, Linux and Mac: I’m still trying to get the best out of my Opera 10 browser, cause i think its worth the pain :). Opera 10 is fast and stable on my Ubuntu 9.04 and there are times I prefer it to Firefox. Opera like Firefox can use scripts and setting-up scripts in Opera is equally easy like in Firefox, unfortunately they are very few Opera scripts out there. Good enough one of those rare Opera scripts is practically a Greasemonkey emulator known as “Emulate GM functions”. More»

A Single Window Mode for Gimp Image Editor v2.8

Gimp 2.8 Mockup

The popular open source graphics editor Gimp, also known as the best free image editor alternative to commercial Photoshop gets the easy-to-use single windows mode. Not that the multiple floating window interface was bad, on big monitors those windows don’t get on your way, but that a good number of Gimp users who certainly use smaller laptop screens supplicated for it. So Gimp version 2.8 intends to offer a switchable single windows mode, thus approaching a little Photoshop’s UI, but without hurting hard-core Gimp users who can simply switch back to the “untouchable” multi-window mode.

Gimp, GNU Image Manipulation Program is a free download for Mac, Windows and Linux.

Ubuntu 10.04 codenamed Lucid Lynx

Lucid Lynx

“Ubuntu is known for having the funkiest release code names around”. Well, that’s very true, and keeping in line with this tradition Ubuntu 10.04 also gets an equally funky codename: Lucid Lynx. Waat!!!. And the code names won’t get better, suggestion for the code name of Ubuntu 10.10 are on the way. It might fall on something like Munchy Mammoth, Maudlin Manatee or Marauding Macaque. Do you have any suggestion. Drop them here: DevelopmentCodeNames

[Update 1] The Ubuntu patron Mark Shuttleworth announces the code name of Ubuntu 10.04 : Lucid Lynx, in this video and a few details on what this new version will be all about.

NotAwesome Prevents Web Sites From Appearing in Firefox AwesomeBar

NotAwesome Firefox Add-on

NotAwesomeBar is an experimental Firefox extension capable of preventing those web sites you’ll rather prefer not to appear on Firefox’s AwesomeBar from doing so.
All you have to do is install the add-on, restart Firefox, thence each time you do a bookmark simply check the “Hide from AwesomeBar Searches” now found on the bookmark dialog box and that web site won’t show up on the AwesomeBar.

You can also retroactively deal with “older” bookmarks. Right-click on them, take “Properties” and drop the “NotAwesome” tag into the Tags field and “Save”. Use the Bookmark Manager if you have several “notawesome” bookmarks to fix.

NotAwesome is still in the experimental stage. It works on Firefox 3.0 and higher version.
