Last week the Chromium Linux Dev Channel updated adding the extensions manager in “Wrench” Menu.
Chromium 4.0.233.0 (Ubuntu build 30813) update adds a dis-activated ‘Sync my Bookmarks’ in the ‘Wrench’ menu – that means bookmark syncing in Chromium Linux without a plug-in is around the corner, it might be activated in the next update. Qui vivra verra.
A recent Chromium build for Windows update converts Greasemonkey user scripts into extensions. This feature still has to make its way into Chromium builds for Linux.

Good news for Skype Linux users. The Skype for Linux website announces the development of an open source version of the Skype Client for Linux. Here goes the announcement;
“Yes, there’s an open source version of Linux client being developed. This will be a part of larger offering, but we can’t tell you much more about that right now. Having an open source UI will help us get adopted in the “multicultural” land of Linux distributions, as well as on other platforms and will speed up further development. We will update you once more details are available.”
After many years of under-development of Skype for Linux, here comes a big turn, what do you think???

Mockups first came out for Firefox 3.7 and 4.0 Windows, this time around mockups are out for Firefox 3.7 and 4.0 Linux.
* Consistent Back/Forward Buttons: Use the same back/forward shape as on the other platforms. The back button would use the same texture as the other buttons however it would be round and larger.
* Buttons vs Icons: Switching to a button+glyph style for the toolbar items. This would be instead of the more representational style that is widely used. It also is a deviation from the common system standard of having icons and then a button shape on hover.
* Curvier Tab Shape: Match the tabs to the proposed tabs on Windows and Mac while keeping the native texture and color.
* Removing Toolbar Separators: Reduces visual complexity as well as maintaining external consistency.

Ubuntu 9.10 final is now available for download. If you want to do a fresh install, your best bet is to get the ISO of the free and open source Linux distribution via BitTorrent downloading, given that the servers would be very crowded right now.
If you are upgrading from a previous version of Ubuntu or from Ubuntu 9.10 Release Candidate then you still have to wait for upgrades to show up. Also try switching to a mirror server in the meantime.
For more information on whats new on this “minor” version, read Ubuntu 9.10 features by Canonical.
