jBrout: A cross-platform Photo Manager

For Linux and Windows XP: Ubuntu, amongst many other applications also bundles up Gnome’s photo manager, F-Spot. If for one reason or the other you’re not a fan of F-Spot — be it for Mono (polemics apart, F-Spot gets the job done) or if you don’t like the way it handles your photos then give jBrout a try.

Package Converter: A Graphical Front-End for Alien

Alien, the Linux application that converts between Red Hat rpm, Debian deb, Stampede slp, Slackware tgz, and Solaris pkg file formats now has a front-end GUI to simplify the already simple process of converting packages from one format to the other with Alien.

Alien is particularly useful in converting working .rpm packages to Debian/Ubuntu .deb format and vice-versa.

Package Converter, the front-end GUI for Alien is intuitive and easy-to-use, if you want to use a package from another Linux distribution than the one you have installed on your system.

Package Converter is written with Realbasic and has downloadable packages in BIN, RPM and DEB. It requires Alien — it goes without saying.

Pidgin 2.5.7 for Ubuntu fixes Yahoo Login Issues

Pidgin, the GTK+ frontend to libpurple, has released Pidgin 2.5.7 for Ubuntu. This new release adds support for the latest Yahoo Protocol 16 to fix login problems the multi-protocol messaging client has had with Yahoo.
Another major fix is; before, each time you blocked an MSN user not on your buddy list, Pidgin got disconnected. With Pidgin 2.5.7 this no-longer happens.
