freewrite.jpg

These are just two of the several posts featuring Kabatology, done on other top websites or weblogs. It has little to do with blog promotion, nothing to do with alter ago, but all to do with the authors aptitude for freelance-tech-writing and web programing/developing.

Both posts are done by Kabatology’s author Martin Kaba aka Kanute.

Tribute to Herbie Hancock – Grammys’ Album Of The Year

hhancock.jpg

This years Grammy Awards for “Album Of The Year” goes to River: The Joni Letters by Herbie Hancock.
Herbie Hancock is an amazing contemporary jazz pianist and composer. In his early carrier he played for several years with the second Miles Davis quintet and helped in redefining the role of rhythm in Jazz with his continues search for new sounds and experimentations.

In the Grammy winning album River, he revisits some of Joni Mitchell’s most famous songs but in a very “Herbie way”. When I first listened to this album I knew it was going to go places. I’ve never recommended a Jazz album like Idid for this one.

River: The Joni letters.

Herbie has always been able to come out with surprising albums. He is able to move from Gershwin’s World to Possibilities where he played with artists like John Mayer, Angelique Kclassjo , Santana and more.

In this album he practically puts music back into the music. The last time a jazz album won the coveted “Album of the Year” was 48 years ago. (In 1964 the duo Stan Getz and João Gilberto of the Bossa Nova won it)

Even though sales are not high (just about 55,000 copies compared to Kanye West’s Graduation, 2 million), this cool tempered album, with singers and songwriters like Tina Turner, Corinne Bailey Rae, Norah Jones, Leonard Cohen and Luciana Souza, including Joni Mitchell has left a mark on fans of Jazz including myself.

“When a jazz record with really assertive, swinging rhythm wins album of the year, then jazz enthusiasts can feel smug”. – New York Times

A very personal tribute to Herbie Hancock.

Discover and Share your Favourite Websites Without Installing StumbleUpon Toolbar

All lovers of StumbleUpon use the traditional StumbleUpon toolbar for Mozilla and Internet Explorer to discover and share with friends their favourite websites. Given that other browsers like Opera, Safari, or Prism- the web app launcher and more do not support this toolbar for now, what can StumbleUpon fans, who use these browsers do to overcome this issue? The solution comes from Digital Inspiration blog, that offers a free “virtual toolbar” that works on most of the modern browsers including Mozilla Prism and other browsers that StumbleUpon doesn’t provide support like Opera .

Netscape Navigator is doomed to die

netsnavigtor.jpg

If you are one of those that still uses Netscape Navigator as your default browser, then there is bad news for you. From March 1st, 2008 AOL will no longer provide security patches or updates for this browser. Downloads of the older version will still be available from the Netscape Archive but with no up to date security patches.

America Online – AOL has been fighting hard to revive this browser from when they acquired Netscape Communications Corporation back in 1999. The failure to gain market share from Internet Explorer, and the surprising huge success of Mozilla Firefox are the principal reasons that make AOL throw in the towel.

If you are Netscape Navigator die-hard, and don’t find it easy to let it go, then get Mozilla Firefox (a recommendation from the AOL Netscape team), and pimp it with the Netscape theme and extensions.

The gOS operating system for gPC

gOS

gOS, the name says it all, maybe, it is rather a difficult product to present, for a simple reason, it is unique of it’s type. The producer says “consumers, who use Linux and open-source software are rare” so the need to come out with what they call “An alternative OS for the masses” — released under a Creative Commons Attribution Non-commercial Share Alike 3.0 Unported license.

The “g” in gOS operating system, does not stand for Google, no, the “g” doesn’t stand for anything but gOS has six Google applications loaded; gMail (Google’s e-mail product), Gtalk, a direct link to video on YouTube, a calendar, maps and news. Other pre-installed software are Mozilla Firefox, Meebo, Skype, Wikipedia, GIMP, Xing Movie Player, Rhythmbox, Faqly, Facebook and OpenOffice.org 2.2 (includes Writer, Impress, Draw, Calc, Base) . Other products could eventually be installed by the user; Dave Liu, the founder of gOS, the California start-up that built the open-source operating system says even an iPod will work on gPC

Dock

The gOS will run a Green gPC produced by Everex (we are in a gWorld) and this so called gPC will be sold online at Walmart.com and in about 600 Wal-Mart stores at a give-out price of $199, monitors not included.

If you don’t need the gPC but want to try-out gOS, it is now downloadable and would run any PC. gOS is Open Source even though it is not released under the GNU GPL. They thank the Ubuntu 7.10 community for their contribution to gOS and the world.
