The forgotten members of the Ubuntu family

Much had been saclass about Ubuntu and it’s, new release Gutsy Gibbon in the recent days. Many do not even know that on that same day October 18 Ubuntu 7.10 versions of Kubuntu, Xubuntu and Edubuntu were released. Very little attention has been given to the other members of the Ubuntu family like the KDE version Kubuntu or the rather feather weight version Xubuntu.
Fortunately, Lifehacker came out with a thorough summary of what’s new in the entire Ubuntu family. Get yourself informed, you might even find Kubuntu better.

I’m not an expert but I prefer Kubuntu, I find it easier to use than Ubuntu.

Or they could stop calling them different names. Most other distros ship with all the major desktop environments, but ubuntu has to be different and have different names for their distro with different desktop environments.

The only real difference is the desktop environment. Even then, they’re relatively similar. I like GNOME because it runs fast and stable, is somewhat more supported by Ubuntu, and has compiz fusion.

Not sure about Edubuntu though. I don’t know what is really different about it.

The difference is the packaged software edubuntu has lots for educational stuff, and things for teachers.

My favorite is xubuntu, xfce is excellent and does it’s job well.
