The Ubuntu development team has just released the sixth and last Alpha version of the upcoming Ubuntu 9.10 a.k.a Karmic Koala, due for release in late October this year.

What’s new in Ubuntu 9.10 Alpha 6!
– Usplash — the boot splash screen has been taken-off.
– The Ubuntu Software Store application is now available under the System menu.

    So again, Mark Shuttleworth fails to keep his promise of a major redesign of the interface. Why am I not surprised?

    @Shane Price: As I understand it, the interface redesign is supposed to be evident late in the Beta version. However, I don’t really see the big draw – it’s easy to customize gnome to your own preferences, so other than from a marketing standpoint – who cares?

    (However, I agree that if promises are made, they should be met.)
