Mozilla Stops Building Firefox for Windows Phone 7

Mozilla’s developer, Pavlov has announced that the development of a Firefox version for Windows Mobile has been frozen due to lack of collaboration from Microsoft. Pavlov, in this blog post had this to say, as concerns Firefox Mobile and Windows Phone 7
While we think Windows Phone 7 looks interesting and has the potential to do well in the market, Microsoft has unfortunately decclassed to close off development to native applications. Because of this, we won’t be able to provclasse Firefox for Windows Phone 7 at this time. Given that Microsoft is staking their future in mobile on Windows Mobile 7 (not 6.5) and because we don’t know if or when Microsoft will release a native development kit, we are putting our Windows Mobile development on hold.
Much of the knowledge gathered working on Windows Phone 7 and its underlying platform Windows CE 6 will be used on other platforms, he further explains. Mozilla will gradually disable Firefox for Windows Phone 7 builds and continue to focus on things they can control like “building a great consumer product on both Androclass and Maemo”.

Mozilla hasn’t made a browser for any mobile platform. They would not have made one for Windows Phone, ever.

Where have you been living, Max? Firefox is available for multiple smartphones, is being developed for Android, and runs very well on Windows CE6, which is the base of Windows Mobile 7. If Microsoft weren’t a band of imbeciles, we’d have Firefox for Windows Mobile no problem…

I guess I should clarify that Firefox doesn’t have any “release” versions for any mobile provider. Isn’t Fennec still in Alpha stage?

Noup. It hit 1.0 a while ago. There are only alpha builds for Android, though, and probably others. But it’s available for N900 or some other tiny ass computer like that

@MAX; Tiago is right, maybe you missed the release of “Fennec” Firefox Mobile 1.0 for Nokia’s Maemo [More Here]
Firefox Mobile 1.1 beta is also available for testing [More Here]
